INSTALLATION DETAILS

TYPE

For a modern and sleek look, we recommend Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA grout.

For a traditional look, we recommend Mapei Saltillo Natural Gray Grout.

JOINTS 
Organic Terracotta tile joint spacing can be as wide as 3/4” and go as small as 1/4.” Generally, smaller joint sizes are used with smaller tiles (6” and under) and tend to look more modern.

Larger joints are used with larger format tiles to accommodate for irregular sizing of handmade tiles while maintaining straight joints and their traditional aesthetic.

SEALING + MAINTENANCE

SEALING
Organic Terracotta arrives unsealed and requires sealing before and after installation to protect against moisture absorption and staining.

We recommend using a penetrating sealer followed by a top coat sealer to achieve the desired finish and level of protection.

  • Penetrating sealers help reduce absorption and prepare the tile for use.
  • Top coat sealers provide surface protection, sheen, and durability.

We recommend Ultra Low VOC Sealer for a subtle satin finish, though other sealers may be used depending on the desired look.

Always test sealers on a small area before full application to ensure compatibility and appearance.

MAINTENANCE
Proper care helps preserve the beauty and longevity of organic terracotta.

  • Sweep, dust, or vacuum regularly to remove debris.
  • Damp mop with warm water and Palo Santo Cleaner Concentrate for routine cleaning.
  • Avoid bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners. Always use pH-neutral products.
  • Clean spills promptly to prevent staining.
  • Use furniture pads and avoid dragging heavy objects.
  • Place rugs or mats in high-traffic areas using felt or cloth-backed pads.

Please Note: Organic Terracotta arrives unsealed, which can make the installation process more demanding. To ensure the best results, we highly recommend sealing Organic Terracotta tiles both before and after installation using our Ultra Low VOC sealer.
