    Horizon Series

The boldest design of the Horizon Series, Clouds is a playful design element with an emphasis on negative space. Claire uses grout as an accent by choosing contrasting or monochromatic grout for grout joints and within the perforations of the tile itself.

    Grout & Trim

    Grout Color and Joints

Although grout color is based on personal preference and your specific project, for Monochromatic look Claire recommends Mapei Colorflex in 101 Rain, Mapei Colorflex 102 Mint and for a higher contrast, Mapei 14 Buscuit and Mapei 01 Alabaster. Read our grout color blog for additional recommendations.

We recommend grout spacing between 1/8”- ¼”. Due to size variation in handmade tile, a smaller grout joint can create uneven grout lines, therefore larger grout lines can be easier to install. This is a recommendation, so feel free to consult us if you need additional guidance.

    Negative Space Grouting

Clouds is part of a new tile trend we like to call, Negative Space. Negative Space tiles include rounded shapes that create larger than normal grout joints or, like Clouds, contains areas within the tile to be filled with grout. Negative space embraces a larger grout joint and doesn't shy away from using it as a design element. Depending on your desired aesthetic, you can use grout texture and color to create interest within your installation. You can change an entire space deciding on monochromatic or contrasting grout colors. Due to the larger grout joints, we recommend to use a heavier sanded grout such as Mapei Colorflex, available in 40 color options. For a more cost effective option, Mapei Saltillo grout or commercial premixed masonry mix. Cost effective grout options do have limited color availability.
