5 TOPICS TO CONSIDER
You're probably here because selecting a tile can feel a bit daunting, but we're here to make the process as smooth as possible! Before we dive in, we’d love to share some insight on the 5 most common topics we get asked about. Take a look at the topics below, and let’s see if we can get you the answers you need right off the bat!
CHOOSING TILES
Tile Selection & Guidance
Choosing the perfect tiles for your space can transform a room's aesthetic and functionality.
- Start by considering the room's purpose and the level of foot traffic it will endure. For high-traffic areas, such as kitchens and entryways, opt for durable materials like clay.
- Next, consider the size and color of the tiles. Larger tiles can make a space appear bigger, while smaller tiles can add detail and texture, while increasing slip resistance due to grout joints. Light colors often make a room feel open and airy, while darker hues can create a cozy, intimate atmosphere.
- Don't forget about texture and finish; matte finishes hide dirt better and provide more grip, which is ideal for bathrooms. Whereas gloss finishes are easy to clean, while adding shine and reflection to the space.
- Lastly, always order samples and view them in your space, as lighting can significantly affect their appearance.
Not sure about the tile features and details? Just head over to the "Specs" section on each product page, where you can easily find detailed tile specifications, including finish, size and thickness.
Balancing style with practicality will ensure you choose tiles that not only look great but also suit the daily use of your space.
Tile Application & Usage
To make your shopping experience quick and easy, we always aim to provide you with all the product information you need right at your fingertips!
Our tiles are designed to be versatile, making them a great fit for all sorts of spaces. While many of our tiles can be used in various settings, some are better suited for specific applications. To help you make the best choice, each product page features a handy "Usage" section that highlights where certain tiles excel and where they might not be the ideal option.
Trim & Grout
TRIM
If you're thinking about a custom order, you can often include tile trim. There are many choices like pencil liners, bullnose, and glazed edges to explore! But if your favorite tile doesn’t offer a trim option, or if you just prefer the "no trim" look"—we’ve got creative trim ideas for you to consider. Feel free to check out some visual examples in our Trim Blog.
GROUT
If you're looking for grout joint or color recommendations, you'll find them right on each product page! Plus, we’ve put together a handy FAQ on Grout Joints that you can check out for even more guidance Grout Joints.
Choosing the right grout color is a reflection of your taste and style! For the breand, we love to use Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout (browse the full color chart here).
For a cohesive look, we recommend selecting a grout color that closely matches your tile, while using contrasting grout colors can enhance the handcrafted features and really pop. If you’re working with Saltillo or Terracotta tiles, we recommend Mapei Natural Gray Saltillo Grout. You’ll frequently see this grout showcased in many installation photos.
Durability & Maintenance
DURABILITY
Tile durability can vary depending on the material you choose!
Clay tiles, unlike popular cement tiles, are known for their robustness and form the base of our solid clay and patterned clay tiles. They're not just durable; they're also super easy to maintain and clean, which is why so many homeowners love them!
Terracotta tiles are also durable, but they do need a little extra love and care because of their handmade nature and natural materials. Sealing and some attention to scratches or unique imperfections might be necessary over time. But don’t worry—terracotta is still a dependable choice!
And let’s not forget about breeze blocks! These stand out as one of the most durable products you can find, with incredible strength—perfect for projects that need long-lasting materials.
Whatever you decide, each tile type has its own special benefits and considerations, helping you find the best fit for your needs and style!
