The Lone Star Hideaway Experience

The Lone Star Hideaway Experience

A tile work that evokes the best of two states

By Clay Imports

Imagine the perfect vacation cabin; what does it look like? Maybe it is a stylish A-frame cabin with beautiful mountain views, close to skiing but also conveniently located near downtown; the perfect place to have a romantic getaway or share a moment of calmness in nature with your family. And what if that place not only exists, but also features the best clay tiles on the market? Meet The Lone Sister Cabin.

Lone Star Cabin: the perfect destination in the woods

The Lone Star Hideaway and Lone Sister are Texas-styled two-cabin properties perched on a hill in the mountains of Boone, North Carolina. This Airbnb is owned and operated by Alex Matthews, who, five years ago, decided to take a break from her busy corporate life and manifest everything she and her husband learned and felt while traveling around the world.

Lone Star, the main cabin, was built during the pandemic and is furnished and designed with pieces sourced locally from Charlotte, Boone, and South Carolina. Two years later, in 2022, Alex started the full renovation of the second cabin, Lone Sister, taking it literally down to the studs.

This new cabin is, in her words, a collection of places and personalities with treasures found all over Texas — Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Round Top, and Houston — a Boone, North Carolina and Texas mashup. This combination of classic views and looks from North Carolina with vibes and influences from her Texas memories resulted in a fantastic vacation spot that left their guests speechless.

The interior design

Alex drew inspiration from her trips to Central and South America to create a space where old-world charm meets new design. Well-appointed with designer touches and styling, Alex aimed to recreate the coziness of her trips to Mexico and the places she remembered from her childhood. Common Good Interiors played a key role in achieving this aesthetic; they took into consideration Alex's vision and ended up with a space aligned with an interior design trend that will be very popular in 2024.

A modern tile design for a cabin

While we could talk all day about the bedroom designs, the kitchen is certainly one of the jewels in the crown. This stylish kitchen design was centered around our beautiful Cotto Octagon + Insert Tierra terracotta tiles. The Milky White Tiles adorn the kitchen backsplash and offer the perfect complement for all the natural wood featured in this lovely kitchen.

Handmade tiles like these exhibit natural variations, which are inherent traits of natural materials like Terracotta. These variations in color, texture and sheen are not defects but rather a natural part of the product. We highly recommend ordering samples before making a final purchase to confirm and appreciate these natural variations in each tile.

The fully remodeled bathroom brings the beautiful cabin’s outdoor vibes indoors. Alex decided to use our Cotto Sienna  tiles to enhance the earthy, natural vibe of this fantastic bathroom design. These natural terracotta tiles were perfectly blended with our Meadow tiles. Alex wanted to use as many sustainable materials as possible and these tiles, being part of our Recycled tile collection, was the perfect choice to create this vibrant bathroom design.
