Handmade Mexican Tile in Yovana’s Texas Home

Handmade Mexican Tile in Yovana’s Texas Home

All the Clay Imports Tile Revealed

When healthy living advocates Yovana Mendoza-Ayres and her husband, Dorian, set out to build their Texas home, they envisioned a home that would support the way they wanted to live: grounded, intentional, connected to nature, and centered around family.

Featured in Austin Home Magazine, the residence is a beacon of healthy living, blending organic textures, earthy tones, and handcrafted finishes throughout. One detail appears again and again across the home: handmade Mexican tile from Clay Imports.

A Home Rooted in Natural Materials

The Ayres family approached the design process with intention. When Yovana and Dorian first shared their vision for the home with us, one thing stood out immediately: they cared deeply about how and where materials were made. Artisan craftsmanship and sustainable production were part of the foundation from the very beginning. They were especially intentional about supporting local and sourcing ethically-made materials from Mexico.

Clay Imports Tile Adds Character Throughout the Home

While Baja-based designers Casa Duhagon specified many of the home’s hard materials, designer Audrey Scheck collaborated with the Ayres family to shape interiors that felt inviting, timeless, and deeply personal. Austin Home Magazine highlighted the “gorgeous, handmade tiles from Clay Imports used throughout” the residence.

Each room carries its own personality while still feeling connected through color, texture, and handcrafted detail.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, rabbits, deer, and herbs dance across two backsplash walls using handmade Mexican tile from the Grow House Grow collection. The illustrated tile brings a playful, nature-inspired layer (cue the Texas Hill Country fauna) to the heart of the home while tying into the property’s indoor-outdoor sensibility.

Greens and blues from our Recycled Collection connect the Jack and Jill bath, creating a soft and calming palette that the growing family will most likely never get tired of.

In the Cabana bath, Clay Imports’ Dalia relief tile, named after Mexico’s national flower, adds texture and playful color alongside glossy emerald green tile, creating a spa-like atmosphere with a touch of vivacity.

The soft, mellow green of Yucca Crackle climbs from floor to ceiling across the fireplace surround, creating a calming focal point that anchors the living space. Its subtle variation and glossy finish catch the light throughout the day.
