Before installing your pool waterline tile, it is essential to seal each piece with a high-quality penetrating sealer. We recommend using Clay Imports Penetrating Sealer.

Dip each tile into the sealer for approximately 2 seconds, making sure that the entire surface is adequately coated. After dipping, carefully wipe away any excess sealer from the glazed surface using a clean, lint-free cloth. Once you have wiped them down, place the tiles face-up on a flat, stable surface to dry. Allow them to dry for a minimum of 1 hour before proceeding with the installation. This drying period is crucial as it ensures that the sealer penetrates the tile effectively, providing the best possible protection.

We fire the Pool Waterline tiles at a much higher temperature than our standard Handmade Clay Tiles and apply more pressure when pressing the tile bodies, which makes them more dense and less susceptible to moisture absorption.

Professional pool installers typically prefer tiles with an absorbency rate between 0.05% and 3%. In contrast, our tiles have an absorbency range of 3% to 7%. However, with proper installation, they can be successfully used in pool environments.

Yes, you can install this Pool Waterline tiles in a fountain. However, much like swimming pool waterline applications, expect patina and potential crazing.

Though our dense, high-fired clay tiles have been installed submerged in fountains and swimming pools without any issues, we advise you to take extra precautions when installing these tiles in a submerged application, as it requires more attention to detail. It is highly recommended to use a professional wet area tile installer.

Our waterline tiles do not qualify as "pool-rated" tiles, as we do not market them as such, but with proper installation, they can still be successfully used in pool environments.
