D’Hanis Red
Inspired by the iconic red clay tiles produced in D’Hanis, Texas, this collection offers a more refined interpretation of terracotta. With a flatter surface, more consistent color range, and durable edge detail, D’Hanis bridges traditional warmth with a cleaner, more tailored aesthetic.
D’Hanis Terracotta is crafted using a controlled forming process that refines traditional clay tile production. Natural clay is shaped with greater precision, then kiln-fired to achieve a denser, more uniform result.
This process creates a flatter surface, more consistent sizing, and improved edge durability while still preserving the warmth and authenticity of terracotta.
D’Hanis is typically finished with a sealed surface that enhances its rich red tone and supports long-term durability.
The sealer helps protect against staining, reduces moisture absorption, and contributes to the tile’s more consistent appearance. Depending on the application, an additional top coat may be used to maintain performance and refresh the finish over time.
D’Hanis carries the natural characteristics of terracotta in a more controlled and refined format.
You can expect:
- A consistent red terracotta color with subtle variation in shade and tone
- Lower contrast between tiles compared to traditional Saltillo
- A mostly flat, smooth surface with some texture
- Some size and thickness variations
- Minimally tumbled edges designed to reduce chipping
- Minor surface markings such as light indentations or handling marks
- Occasional small edge chips or natural irregularities
Each tile is made from natural clay and will not be perfectly uniform. Variation between tiles and batches is expected, though overall appearance remains more cohesive.
Terracotta is a living material that evolves over time.
D’Hanis develops a subtle, even patina as the surface responds to use and environment. Because of its denser body and sealed finish, most aging occurs at the surface level, resulting in a gradual softening of sheen and slight deepening of tone.
With proper care, the tile maintains its refined appearance while gaining warmth and character over time.
Each installation will evolve differently depending on use, environment, and maintenance.
