Design Trends 2020's: What To Watch Out for this Decade

Tile Design Trends for this decade by Lauren Jones

 By Clay Imports

It’s the beginning of a decade, and for designers and artisans alike that means a new wave of trends. It's a time to make bold style decisions and set the mark on what will be “in” and what will be “out,” for years to come.

Design Trends 2020: From sustainable materials to ceramic furniture to statement tile, check out our picks for what to buy in 2020.

1. Sustainable Materials

At Clay Imports, we strive to create products that are not only beautiful, but also sustainable. Our Saltillo tiles, which are hand-crafted in Saltillo, Mexico, are as natural as it gets. If you’re looking to go a bit more green in 2020, shop our line of Traditional Sealed tiles, which are crafted traditionally from water and clay. Then formed in wooden molds and left to dry in the sun.

2. Ceramics

Ceramics are big right now. From lighting to furniture to accessories, there’s no wrong way to incorporate some ceramic pieces into your home. Earlier this year, we launched our home goods line, Clay Casa, a line of terracotta and ceramic wares and furnishings. Shop our speckled Poco Pottery, which is also trendy as it features the Pantone Color of the Year, Classic Blue, or our tule pendants.

3. The New Neutrals

Say goodbye to cool tones and hello to rich browns, greens, and ochre in 2020. Our Glazed Thin Brick tile in Forest Green and golden yellow-and-white Yellow Tip Clay are sure to make a statement.

4. Black-and-white

Elle Decor has predicted that funky black-and-white tile is going to be popular in 2020, and we couldn’t agree more. Check out our Zebra Black tile for an eclectic splash of texture and pattern, or our encaustic black-and-white clay offering, Galaxy Black, a diamond-shaped eight-inch semi-gloss tile. There’s also the classic, Anejo Flecha, a traditional clay tile that pays homage to historic European architecture.

5. Fun Bathroom Design

Who doesn’t love a fun bathroom? Baths are spaces to really take a risk when it comes to tile. For those wanting to revamp things for 2020, take a look at our line with Brett Stiles, the From Outside Series. Nature-inspired black-and-white, wine, and navy blue pieces that can be mixed and matched to form a unique layout, or Shapes for fan-shaped, parallelogram and hexagon tile. One of our favorite design trends 2020.

6. Pantone Classic Blue

We’re big fans of the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year: Classic Blue. Shop glossy blue tiles, hand painted Talavera tile, which are beautiful in bathrooms, hallways, and backsplashes. For the trendsetter, there’s also our Spin Blue tile from the Lacuna Collection.
