Your favorite tile designs in a very special year
By
2020 is coming to an end! No, this is not a post about this challenging pandemic and how happy we are to enter a new year full of hope! Instead, we just want to share our favorite projects of 2020 with you and hope you find some inspiration.
One is certain in the tile design world, 2020 was all about organic shapes, terracotta vibes and rich jewel tones. Take a look at our favorite 2020 tile designs!
Going Green
One color dominated the Clay Imports most popular tile feed: our forest green, an emerald, high gloss, deep and dark dramatic shade.
A Tropical Wet Bar
Solon Custom Building in Rhode Island selected the dark green Palmas tile for the main field and the same green shade Granada tile to frame this pretty wet bar backsplash. Both patterns are part of the Valladolid Series by Ayse Design. We love how tile can make a space. Who wants a drink!?
Stacked Green Thin Brick, Gold Accents and awesome Wallpaper

Design: Demilio Design Photo: Ellis Creek Photography Location: Fifty One Spring
Not only do we think this shower design encouraged many of you to go bold this year, we also really enjoy working with designer Alyssa Demilio. Another reason, we dig this project: the Grow House Grow wallpaper pairing so effortlessly with our light green thin brick. Did you know we have partnered with New York based designer Grow House Grow on a tile line? The patterns and stories behind their work is giving us major design inspiration.
Terracotta Vibes
Taking a break from the dark greens, let’s take a look at our most liked Saltillo tile projects.
Courtyard Goals

This Mexico-inspired archway looks like it just jumped off the pages of a San Miguel de Allende travel brochure. Designer Meredith Shapiro took inspiration from traditional courtyards to create this beautiful and welcoming sanctuary. Featured is our traditional 12″x12″ Saltillo tile paired with handcrafted Mexican tile.
Feels like a Boutique Hotel
This Marfa-inspired design by the homeowners and one of our Austin favorite local design firms, Moontower Design Build, made it into our top 5! The diamond shaped Saltillo tile features an antique texture and matte finish seal – and it looks just gorgeous in natural light.
Having this Thing with Tiled Steps

Looking for ways to liven up a space? We think tiled steps will definitely put more pep in your step. We love the multiple pattern combination on this dramatic staircase! Get the look with our Fresh Series, and other beautiful cuerda seca tiles. The stair copings are made in Saltillo and can come in various finishes.
Pattern Plays and Neutral Colors
More beautiful tile work below! We just can’t decide which one’s our favorite.
A Breezy Outdoor Shower
Being outside this year has been a no-brainer this year. Especially when you have a beautifully tiled patio or, even more exquisite: your own tiled open-air shower! Designer Ayse Iyriboz DIY installed this pretty Grow House Grow Otomi Midnight Clay tile in her very own home. We’re channeling all the Tulum vibes over here.
Glaze your Saltillo tile!
Austin based furniture designer Seer Studio created the most stunning bar stools to compliment this custom floor tile! Did you know that our handmade Saltillo tile is also available in all kinds of neutral colors? While the traditional natural terracotta is our most popular, applying color is a great way to add a modern touch to a timeless medium.
The Favorite Kitchen Backsplash
Another Alyssa Demilio Design had your hearts this year! By making do and putting a facelift on existing details, the designer had just enough left over to replace the original drab backsplash with our beautiful Emmeline tile.
