What is Pressed Terracotta?

All our terracotta tiles are handmade. While being made, the tile will experience different processes during handmade production that would affect the final product. Bumps, color variations, irregular textures and beauty marks… These variations are common characteristics of authentic, handmade terracotta tile. You can learn more about these variations in this article and see why these characteristics are heavily appreciated by aficionados and professionals alike.

However, some like to have a more uniform look without sacrificing the charming handcrafted nature of natural terracotta tiles. By pressing the terracotta in manual molded presses instead of the traditional cutting process and finely polishing the tile once out of the kiln, we have created a product that combines the refinement of modern tile fabrication with the handmade craftsmanship behind traditional terracotta tiles.

Pressed Terracotta: a new terracotta tile

Pressed Terracotta is the new neutral, low color variation terracotta tile. Unlike Cotto or Organic Terracotta, Pressed Terracotta offers an irresistibly smooth satin finish that enhances the natural earthy look of the tile and contributes to its characteristically unique and authentic charm.

This product has fewer variations than its Traditional Natural Terracotta counterpart, but it does still show some slight variations which are inherent traits of the natural materials they are made of. These variations in color, texture and sheen are not defects but rather a natural part of the product. We highly recommend ordering samples before making a final purchase to confirm and appreciate these natural variations in each tile.

Pressed Terracotta is available in two colors: Red Satin has the simple and consistent shades of natural terracotta meanwhile Brown Satin is a naturally pigmented, milk chocolate hued tile that offers a roasted variation and a new color to blend into your design project.
