Labor of Love: How Designer Ayse Created The Original Platanos Banana Leaf Tile

By Clay Imports

Curious about how the Platanos tile was created? It all starts with drawing from inspiration. Product and tile designer Ayse Iyriboz’ Valladolid Series is a nod to the rich and luscious landscape of the Yucatán.

Ayse was born on the Aegean in Izmir, Turkey where she lived an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. It was normal to have a jungle in your bathroom and eat family lunches and epic dinners outside overlooking the sea.

The textures and vibrant deep glazes of the Platanos Banana Leaf tile evoke a natural sense of wonder with a touch of timeless glamour. In addition, the Valladolid series can help achieve an ‘elevated Bohemian,’ or ‘polished jungalow’ look for your interior design. These tiles can also become the stunning focal point of any modern or art deco design.

With tiles that are this bold and attention grabbing, Platanos tiles are a natural fit for restaurants, bars, or any commercial space. You can also use them on residential floors, walls, showers, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, and many other areas.
