GROUT JOINTS
Between 1/8" and 1/4" to accommodate the natural variation that comes with handmade tiles. It’s common for there to be slight size differences, up to ± 1/4", which is completely normal. A slightly wider grout line helps manage alignment and leveling.
While it’s possible to use a tighter grout joint, we highly recommend working with an experienced installer to ensure a successful result.
Glazed solid clay tile is one of the easiest handcrafted tiles to live with. The smooth, glazed surface naturally resists stains and moisture, making everyday care refreshingly simple.
MAINTENANCE
Regular Cleaning | Sweep or vacuum as needed to remove dust and debris. For routine cleaning, a damp mop with warm water or a gentle, pH-neutral cleaner is all it takes to keep the surface looking fresh.
Skip Harsh Cleaners | Avoid bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners. A mild soap or non-acidic household cleaner will clean effectively without dulling the glaze. Use a soft cloth or mop to protect the finish.
Spills Are No Big Deal | Thanks to the glazed surface, spills wipe up easily. Simply clean with warm water or a pH-neutral cleaner as they happen.
Protect High-Traffic Areas | In busy spaces, rugs or mats can help reduce wear. Use felt or cloth pads underneath to prevent scratching.
With minimal upkeep and timeless character, glazed solid clay tile offers the best of both worlds: handcrafted beauty and easy, modern maintenance.
SEALING
SEALING
No Sealing Required
Unlike unglazed clay tile, glazed tile does not require sealing. The glaze acts as a built-in protective layer, making it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and other everyday spaces.
While our clay tiles typically do not need to be sealed, we advise applying a protective sealant for tiles installed in wet areas such as shower surrounds, wet area flooring, and exterior applications.
Sealant offers an additional layer of protection by sealing in the micropores of glazed clay tiles, ensuring your tiles remain in excellent condition over time.

Glazed Clay
Glazed clay tiles combine the character of handmade terracotta with the durability of a kiln-fired glaze.
No two glazed clay tiles are exactly alike. Variations in color, size, thickness, flatness, texture, and glaze application are natural characteristics of handcrafted tile. You may also notice tonal shifts, glaze pooling, and subtle differences from piece to piece.
These variations are not defects. They are part of what gives handmade tile its depth, movement, and authentic character. For the most balanced appearance, we recommend blending tiles from multiple boxes during installation.
Hand-applied glazes create depth and variation that cannot be replicated by machine-made tile. Expect subtle tonal shifts, glaze movement, pooling, and occasional surface irregularities that contribute to the handcrafted look. These variations are celebrated as part of the tile's unique character.
Glazed clay tiles interact beautifully with natural and artificial light. Depending on the glaze, color may appear softer, richer, warmer, or more reflective throughout the day. Variations in lighting conditions can highlight the depth, movement, and dimensional quality of the glazed surface.
The kiln-fired glaze creates a durable, easy-to-maintain surface suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial applications. Clean regularly with a pH-neutral cleaner and avoid abrasive products that may dull the finish.
Some glazed finishes may also develop fine surface lines known as crazing. Crazing is a natural characteristic of certain handcrafted glazes and does not affect the structural integrity or performance of the tile.
