KNOTCH
A dimensional take on traditional Saltillo, Knotch features a sculpted 3D surface paired with a soft antique satin finish. The result is a tile that plays with light and shadow, adding depth and movement while maintaining the warmth of natural terracotta.
Knotch is formed using a pressed mold to create its dimensional surface, then crafted from natural Saltillo clay and kiln-fired using traditional methods.
This process allows for more consistency in shape while still preserving the inherent variation of terracotta. Each tile reflects differences in clay composition, forming, and firing, resulting in a surface that is structured yet naturally varied.
Knotch features an antique satin finish that softens the surface while enhancing the natural tones of the clay.
- Soft, low satin sheen with a slightly aged appearance
- Enhances depth across the dimensional surface
- Adds a protective layer to help reduce staining and moisture absorption
- Highlights light and shadow across the 3D form
A top coat sealer may be applied over time to maintain protection and refresh the finish as needed.
Knotch carries the natural characteristics of Saltillo while introducing added variation through its dimensional surface.
You can expect:
- Moderate variation in color within a warm terracotta range
- Natural tonal movement, including shading and subtle striping
- Variation in how light interacts across raised and recessed areas
- Consistent overall shape with slight variation in size and thickness
- Surface markings such as indentations or handling marks
- Fine surface pores, sometimes referred to as lime pops
- Hairline cracks and natural drying marks
- Light edge variation and occasional small chips
Each tile is made from natural clay and will not be perfectly uniform. Variation between tiles and batches is expected.
