First ask yourself what kind of look you want to achieve. Do you want grout colors to stand out, or would you prefer that they fade away so the focus stays on the tile?

Grout Joints

Butting the tiles together will create a highly varied, handmade look. Otherwise, minimal grout spacing of 1/16"-1/18", the surface will still create an imperfect, yet desirable texture.

Increasing the grout joint, on the other hand, will create a more traditional look. Regardless of joint size, for a lasting installation, grouting is required.
