Quick and easy tutorial on how to seal your natural clay pavers
Materials you’ll need:
- Brush, sponge or spray bottle for sealer application
- Plastic bin or bucket for sealer
- Miracle Seal 511 Impregnator OR Miracle Seal 511 Porous Plus
Why should I seal Pavers?
We make our Clay Imports handmade pavers in Saltillo, Mexico from 100% natural clay. Natural clay pavers do not have a glazed surface, thus are very porous and prone to water and oil absorption. If not sealed properly, this moisture absorption can lead to staining.
To lessen the effect of moisture absorption and development of patina, clay pavers can be sealed. Watch the tutorial video below or read on for step-by-step guidelines.
Certain sealers can darken your pavers significantly while others will only minimally change the color. Either you or your installer should apply sealer options to a couple of sample pieces to preview the effect it’ll have on your pavers.
You can use a bin or bucket for easy sponge or brush application of sealer
What sealer options do I have?
We recommend Miracle Seal 511 Impregnator Sealer for a rich, saturated look. To maintain the natural look of the pavers, we suggest Miracle Seal 511 Porous Plus.
When and how do I seal pavers?
Pavers should be sealed either prior to installation or at the latest prior to grouting. Sealing pavers prior to installation might take more time, but will significantly reduce the chance of the surface staining with installation materials such as thinset or cement.

To apply sealer, simply brush, sponge or spray the surface of the clay paver per the sealer manufacturer’s instructions, then allow to dry. For best protection, we recommend three coats of sealer but more might be needed depending on your application, traffic and usage of the space.

You can also spray sealer onto paver surface
Clay pavers have a heavily textured surface, making for a high-traction, slip-resistant floor. Although sealing natural clay pavers will make them resilient to moisture absorption, expect this product to patina and develop character over time.
We recommend three layers of sealer for best protection
