GROUT + TRIM

GROUT TYPE - We recommend Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout FA or Saltillo Grout.

GROUT JOINTS - Glazed Terracotta tile joint spacing can be as wide as 5/8” and go as small as 1/4.” Generally, smaller joint sizes are used with smaller tiles (6” and under) and tend to look more modern.

Larger joints are used with larger format tiles to accommodate for irregular sizing of handmade tiles while maintaining straight joints and their traditional aesthetic.

TRIM

Schluter: Sleek metal trim pieces offers a variety of metal finishes and paintable options to suit your design needs.

Miter Cut: Create seamless 45-degree angles for corners, niches, and edges effortlessly with miter cuts.

Grout, Paint, or Caulk: Achieve a simple polished look by applying grout, paint, or caulk along the trim edges. Make sure all exposed tile edges are properly covered.

Inset: For a sleek and seamless look, set tiles flush with drywall or sheetrock. Remember, careful planning is key to maximizing the effectiveness of this option.

Glazed Edges: Similar to bullnose but instead of a rounded edge, the glaze is applied to the edges of your field tile to create a more modern look

SEALING + MAINTENANCE

SEALING

Glazed terracotta tile does not require sealing.

In certain applications like flooring, exterior walls, or wet areas, sealing is optional and can provide an extra layer of protection by reducing absorption at the grout lines and tile edges.

Glazed terracotta tile is one of the easiest handcrafted tiles to live with. The smooth, glazed surface naturally resists stains and moisture, making everyday care refreshingly simple.

Regular Cleaning | Sweep or vacuum as needed to remove dust and debris. For routine cleaning, a damp mop with warm water or a gentle, pH-neutral cleaner is all it takes to keep the surface looking fresh.

Skip Harsh Cleaners | Avoid bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners. A mild soap or non-acidic household cleaner will clean effectively without dulling the glaze. Use a soft cloth or mop to protect the finish.

Spills Are No Big Deal | Thanks to the glazed surface, spills wipe up easily. Simply clean with warm water or a pH-neutral cleaner as they happen.

Protect High-Traffic Areas | In busy spaces, rugs or mats can help reduce wear. Use felt or cloth pads underneath to prevent scratching.

With minimal upkeep and timeless character, glazed solid clay tile offers the best of both worlds: handcrafted beauty and easy, modern maintenance.
