Mapei Ultracolor Plus Wicker - Monochrome Grout
Mapei Ultracolor Plus Honeybutter
GROUT JOINTS - Glazed Terracotta tile joint spacing can be as wide as 5/8” and go as small as 1/4.” Generally, smaller joint sizes are used with smaller tiles (6” and under) and tend to look more modern.
Larger joints are used with larger format tiles to accommodate for irregular sizing of handmade tiles while maintaining straight joints and their traditional aesthetic.
TRIM
Schluter: Sleek metal trim pieces offers a variety of metal finishes and paintable options to suit your design needs.
Miter Cut: Create seamless 45-degree angles for corners, niches, and edges effortlessly with miter cuts.
Grout, Paint, or Caulk: Achieve a simple polished look by applying grout, paint, or caulk along the trim edges. Make sure all exposed tile edges are properly covered.
Inset: For a sleek and seamless look, set tiles flush with drywall or sheetrock. Remember, careful planning is key to maximizing the effectiveness of this option.
Glazed Edges: Similar to bullnose but instead of a rounded edge, the glaze is applied to the edges of your field tile to create a more modern look
SEALING + MAINTENANCE
SEALING + MAINTENANCE
SEALING
Glazed terracotta tile does not require sealing.
In certain applications like flooring, exterior walls, or wet areas, sealing is optional and can provide an extra layer of protection by reducing absorption at the grout lines and tile edges.
Glazed terracotta tile is one of the easiest handcrafted tiles to live with. The smooth, glazed surface naturally resists stains and moisture, making everyday care refreshingly simple.
Regular Cleaning | Sweep or vacuum as needed to remove dust and debris. For routine cleaning, a damp mop with warm water or a gentle, pH-neutral cleaner is all it takes to keep the surface looking fresh.
Skip Harsh Cleaners | Avoid bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners. A mild soap or non-acidic household cleaner will clean effectively without dulling the glaze. Use a soft cloth or mop to protect the finish.
Spills Are No Big Deal | Thanks to the glazed surface, spills wipe up easily. Simply clean with warm water or a pH-neutral cleaner as they happen.
Protect High-Traffic Areas | In busy spaces, rugs or mats can help reduce wear. Use felt or cloth pads underneath to prevent scratching.
With minimal upkeep and timeless character, glazed solid clay tile offers the best of both worlds: handcrafted beauty and easy, modern maintenance.

horizon series
Drawing inspiration from Claire Zinnecker's appreciation for nature and vast open spaces. She is enchanted by the earthy tones of clay and aims to celebrate the architectural beauty of Mexico. Her vision is shaped by the aesthetics of both the American Southwest and Mexico.
Each Horizon tile begins with natural terracotta clay that is formed to create its distinctive dimensional surface. After the clay is kiln-fired, glaze is applied and the tile is fired again, permanently bonding the finish to the clay body.
The combination of dimensional texture, glaze, and kiln firing creates subtle shifts in color and sheen that change as light moves across the installation.
Each tile is individually made, resulting in noticeable variation in color, tone, texture, size, flatness, and glaze coverage. These differences can be significant even within the same batch and are part of the authentic handmade appearance.
Natural surface marks, scuffs, minor chips, irregular edges, pinholes, and variations in the glaze may also be present. These characteristics are expected in handcrafted terracotta and are not considered defects.
For the most balanced installation, we recommend blending tiles from multiple boxes and dry-laying the material before installation.
Horizon combines the character of handmade terracotta with the durability and easy maintenance of a kiln-fired glazed surface. The glaze provides a protective finish that does not require routine sealing on the glazed face.
Its dimensional surface is an important consideration when selecting an application, particularly for floors or areas requiring a consistently flat surface. Refer to the Tile Use Chart for recommended residential and commercial uses.
