From Sketchbook to Chilaquiles for Breakfast in San Miguel de Allende
The Casa Zuma CLAY collection, designed by Camille Styles in collaboration with Clay Imports, proves that sometimes the best ideas come from following a hunch and saying yes.
A Tile Order That Sparked Something Bigger
It started with a Clay Imports tile order for Camille’s Malibu project. Then came the invitation: fly to San Miguel de Allende, step into our clay-covered studio, and see what else could take shape. A few notebooks full of sketches later, plates, bowls, and platters emerged, handmade by Clay Imports artisans and ready for the table.

Designed for Gathering
As Camille puts it in her journal, these pieces aren’t just dinnerware. They’re built for slow meals, long conversations, and everyday rituals that feel a little more special. Or as she wrote in Why Some People Seem Lucky:
Luck” is about three things: paying attention, preparing before the moment arrives, and being willing to say yes when it does.
That yes is what took Casa Zuma CLAY from sketches to shelves.

Sharing Meals Matters
But also, maybe what really won Camille over wasn’t just the clay-dusted shelves or glowing kilns at our San Miguel studio, but Nick’s legendary chilaquiles verdes, served during her artist residency at CLAY SMA.

At Clay Imports, we aim to go beyond a backsplash, building collaborations that connect customers directly with artisans and bring original handmade ceramics into everyday life. It’s a process that celebrates craftsmanship, creativity, and sustainability, whether you’re designing a kitchen or setting the dinner table.
