What is Manganese Saltillo?
Manganese is a type of Saltillo tile that comes out of Saltillo, Mexico. An element called manganese dioxide is added to the clay when in it’s wet and liquid form. Then, the artisans stack the tiles in the cave kilns on end, slightly overlapping so that they will not fall over. It’s just like a normal Saltillo tile but the color is light and dark brown colors with some terra-cotta tones.
