Pajaro Lantern
The Clay Imports Pajaro Lantern features a rounded steel frame and is hand wrapped with stretched flat Tule. This wicker style light fixture creates a beautiful ambient lighting effect. Tule is ideal for indoor use, but can be used outdoors with minimal exposure to sun and rain. E26 light assemblies (hardwire or swag) can be used with our Tule light fixtures, although not included. We recommend IKEA swag and hardwire.

HISTORY
Tule is a natural fibrous bamboo grass that grows freely on the shores of Lake Chapala of Jalisco, Mexico. Pollutants in the lake are extracted by the Tule plant that cleans the lake and smaller lagoons. It has been, and still is harvested by the original families of the region and is strategically cultivated to clean various bodies of water. Tule was originally cultivated for practical usage such as rafts, floor mats and baskets that are still produced today. The notable weaving techniques are a community art form that has been passed down through generations resulting in stylistic characteristics of different families and communities. Tule began being wrapped and weaved around metal frames that can be found around Mexico in the form of pendant lighting and lounge furniture.
STORY
Skilled artisans hand weave the Clay Imports Tule light fixtures in the small town of Gomez Farias, Jalisco Mexico. Tule products have been used in furniture and home goods production for centuries. In fact, we use dried tule plant to create our sustainable Mexican Equipales. This biodegradable padding is an excellent alternative to conventional unsustainable upholstery foam. Every portion of the Tule plant is used and in remarkable ways! (the inner fibers are used as natural loofahs!) We are inspired by this versatile plant and honorable craft. With your purchase you directly support the artisanal communities of Central Mexico.
