    HOW TO SEAL PAVERS

    F A Q

Do I need to seal pavers?

We make our Clay Imports handmade pavers in Saltillo, Mexico from 100% natural clay. Natural clay pavers do not have a glazed surface, thus are porous and prone to moisture absorption. To lessen the effect of moisture absorption and development of patina, clay pavers can be sealed. Watch the tutorial video below or read on for step-by-step guidelines.

Pleasse note certain sealers can darken your pavers significantly while others will only minimally change the color.

When and how do I seal pavers?

Pavers should be sealed either prior to installation or at the latest prior to grouting. Sealing pavers prior to installation might take more time, but will significantly reduce the chance of the surface staining with installation materials such as thinset or cement.

    Where can I install pavers?

You may use Terracotta Pavers to design a brick patio, walkway, driveway, or a streetscape. You can also take pavers inside! The rustic and earthy look will bring much character to a mudroom, kitchen, or even bathroom.

Our pavers are suitable for residential applications as well as industrial and commercial projects. Just keep in mind that clay terracotta pavers are not rated frost resistant and require additional maintenance and sealing.

    Can I install pavers indoor?

Yes you can. If you are installing pavers indoors, you need to grout your pavers. Note that your terracotta pavers should be sealed before grouting to keep the grout from staining the surface. Make sure to do a grout sample before starting on the full area. Also, seal your indoor paver installation heavily after installation, and after the grout is dry, to prevent any moisture absorption.

How can I install pavers outdoor?

Outdoors, pavers are often installed with no grout between. If this is the case, sealing is not necessary. Non-grouting and non-sealing creates an “impervious surface.” This means the water can go through the joints and then soak into the ground, creating a increased patina over time.
