A retro-modern touch for your next project
By Clay Imports
After a long history of specifying custom tiles for projects, we had the chance of working with Davey McEathron and Rebecca Holiday of Rock Paper Build and Davey McEathron Architecture to create a tile line that encapsulates the couple’s joint design duties.
An effortlessly cool design
Inspired, designed, and curated in Mexico, this collection features the characteristics Davey and Rebecca appreciate most when choosing a tile: a balance between something that really stands on its own and a supporting player with color and texture. Davey and Rebecca came to our Clay SMA Residency with some ideas, and the result of their stay in Mexico was a collection that spans multiple materials and usage from printed floor tile, pool waterline tiles, relief tiles and 3D tiles. You can learn more about their experience in Mexico here.
The visual aesthetic of the printed floor tile is a high-saturation, poolside, off-duty design with symmetrical curved lines and fruit motifs, which are also present both in the relief tiles and the pool line tiles. One of Rebecca’s common inspirations is vintage cowboy boot motifs, stitching and design. You can see this unique inspo in the patterned tiles as well as in the 3D tiles which are named after different parts of a boot.
Keep in mind that these handmade tiles will exhibit natural variations, which are inherent traits of natural materials like clay. These variations in color, texture and sheen are not defects but rather a natural part of the product. We highly recommend ordering samples before making a final purchase to confirm and appreciate these natural variations in each tile.
Printed Floor tiles
Pomelo
Named after the Spanish word for grapefruit, Pomelo is an 8” hexagonal tile with a symmetrical and minimalist design that is ceramic; however, their carefully curated sheen and glaze color emulates the beloved aesthetic of cement tiles. This blue tile features pale pink details and a combined pale pink and green combination if you want to incorporate a more fruity motif in your design.
Naranjas
Unapologetic in its inspiration, Naranjas is a bold 8” hexagonal tile with a symmetrical design that stands out. The tile is available in four colors: a creamy "vocho" white, midnight blue, a light and warm day trip blue, and vibrant laguna green, each featuring a beautiful minimalistic interpretation of an orange tree. These tiles are perfect not only for flooring but also for a backsplash, feature wall, barface, commercial space, or any other location where they will undoubtedly catch the eye.
Bayas
Bayas, Spanish for berries, is a square 8” x 8” tile, directly influenced by floral cowboy boot motifs and available in the same color ways as Naranjas. The main design is bold in nature; however, it can appear more discreet, combined with its complimentary tile named “Conectada,”(connected in spanish) which expands the symmetrical element of your Bayas tile and offers a new layer of choices for layout. Conectada is also available in all the same color ways, and can be used on its own for a more subtle geometric design.
Pool waterline tiles
While designing the relief tiles for the collection, Rebecca and Davey discovered that their design could be adapted and used as pool waterline tiles. All three designs are available in 6” x 6” in both smooth decorative Midnight and relief Jade. As the name suggests, these tiles are an excellent choice for pools, bathrooms, and other wet areas.
3D tiles
The tiles of this collection are inspired by the design and construction of vintage cowboy boots. Each design comes in 5 glaze colors including forest green, a deep emerald gloss green, Mamey Matte, a true rich terracotta, black Suede matte and opaque matte, a milky translucent matte that shows the variation in the tile body itself. This collection of 3D tiles is ideal for facades, bar faces, wet area walls and more.
Tacón
Tacón, meaning “heel” in spanish is a 6” x 6” squared tile with a circular segway that can layout in multiple ways. These circles are the elevated part of the tile and the reason we have a three dimensional tile. These tiles are great for commercial spaces and facades.
Suela
Suela, meaning “sole” in Spanish, is a fluted 6”x6” molded tile that perfectly matches the fluting sections featured in Tacón. They can be mixed together or hold their own riding solo.
Bota and Inversa Bota
Bota is a 4” x 8” rectangular tile featuring a slight slope towards one side of the shorter edge creating an interesting but subtle dimensional tile. Glazed edges allow for more versatile installation layout options.
Inversa Bota features a central void and slope into the raised perimeter border creating a high contrast dimensional tile piece. The Inversa Bota is exactly that, the inverse of Bota! They can be mixed for an even more dynamic installation.
These tiles might look out of the ordinary, because they are extraordinary! Extraordinary tiles present unique design opportunities and special spaces that are far from average. Although unique, they can be as easily maintained as any other clay tile. As tile experts, we truly understand the importance of taking good care of your tiles. That's why we recommend taking a look at our Clay Care products. These maintenance items have been carefully tested with our products, and they are designed to preserve your tiles' beauty, ensuring their longevity and durability.
