Día de los Muertos "Cartas"

We source the Día de los Muertos "Cartas" tile responsibly from Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico. In fact, the small town just outside of the historic San Miguel de Allende is one of the strongholds of Primavera clay making. Clay Imports stocks this handmade tile in Austin, Texas.

Día de los Muertos is celebrated on November 1 throughout Mexico. The most familiar symbol of this indigenous Mexican holiday may be the skeletons and skulls. Often, they are portrayed as enjoying life, wearing fancy clothes and enjoying entertaining situations. Our Día de los Muertos line is a pretty good representation! However, in the light of growing popularity in the United States, the "Day of the Dead" festivities begin to carry misconceptions surrounding it - Hop over to thinkmexican blog to learn more!

About Primavera Tile

Clay Imports sources all tiles responsibly from places we appreciate. We visit each international partner and their production facilities regularly. You can recognize Primavera Relief tiles most notably by their textured decorative surfaces on a Primavera clay body. We designed this tile to incorporate the beauty and integrity of handcrafted tile. At the same time, this tile has a denser body. The production of this ornate tile is the most time and labor-intensive of all of our offerings. The reason is that artisans meticulously sketch and hand paint each intricate design. Certainly, the hand-crafting process of fabricating a Primavera relief tile may take upwards of 20 times longer than a solid color Primavera! For this reason, we treat our Primavera tiles with somewhat of a reverence for the artists, as each individual tile is a work of art.
