Ernesto Ontiveros Guerra
Artist de Casa
Ernesto Ontiveros Guerra is a 35-year old native of Lagos de Moreno in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Ernesto is married to Armida de la Druz Delgadillo and they have two sons, Leonardo Odanel, age 11 and Canek who is 8 years old.
At the age of three, his parents, J. Refugio Cardenas Guerra and Adela Barrientos Ontiveros taught Ernesto and his six brothers the importance of art as an expression of their passions. With encouragement from his grandfather, their entire lives were devoted to all forms of art, specializing in painting, sculpture and murals. Ernesto watched his father paint grand murals in local churches, buildings, theatres and residences. Ernesto also developed his love of art by watching and helping his father and grandfrather give local residents free art lessons. At the age of 14, he created an original oil painting which won first place in a national art competition.
Mr. Guerra then took his love of creating art and sculpture and enrolled in the University of Guadalajara’s School of Architure where he earned his master’s degree in architecture in 2000.
In 2005, Mr. Guerra migrated to the United States and settled in Austin, Texas. He was commissioned by Clay Imports Artesanal to create original mural art to be reproduced on authentic Talavera tile. Then on November 6, 2010, Mr. Guerra accepted the invitation to become the exclusive “artist de casa” for Consorcio Artesanal, LLC, the parent company of Clay Imports Artesanal.
